Feeling Blue Today

This season has been atrocious and disappointing, but today marked a day where it became a sad season as well.

Coach Mcadoo decided it was time to move on from Eli Manning

To this guy.

Eli was given the chance to start  just to keep his streak alive, but was told he would not play a full game so Eli decided to take a step back and let Geno start. Eli starts to win a game and finish it. Not to play it like a preseason game and get pulled.

He deserved a better finish in Big Blue if this was it for him. It was a franchise he never missed a start for and one he poured his heart and soul into.  Not to mention won two rings with and was an incredible leader on and off the field.

You could tell in Eli's press conference he was not happy at all with the coaches decision and wasn't sure what his future will be with the team.

All I can hope is that he hangs on and stays another year. This team when healthy is only a oline away from big things and a new coach and GM of course.

What do you guys think of Mcadoo bold move?

What An Ending!

The Giants notched their second win of the year thanks to a solid effort all around. Defense forced 3 turnovers, Eli didn't throw an interception, there was even some trickery.

The biggest play of the game, even though it is hard to choose just one, was the catch and touchdown (despite the refs bad call of saying he was down) was by Roger Lewis.

I snagged this autograph rookie Contenders card of him last year for $2 knowing the potential he had. He showed it yesterday.

Snagging Donruss

Well, with the Giants in a 1-6 hole with no hope left for the season, I at least have hope in my collecting of them ad I have added have ton of cards through trades this year.

When sorting those cards out and putting them away, i discovered I have quite the collection of Donruss Paul Perkins cards going on especially with 2016 Donruss Optic.

Maybe I should try for a rainbow? What do you guys think?

0-4, Oh The Hearbreak

0-4. I don't have words for the 2017 NY Giants team anymore. They seem to want to win, but can't seem to seal up a win. The last two weeks have been the hardest. Watching the Eagles kick a 61 yard field goal by a rookie to end it. Ouch. It didn't help that the Giants punter muffed a punt to give them the field position to try it. Follow that up with a game I couldn't watch because Fox plays Patriot games where I live over Giants ones, watching my phone tracker show the Giants trail 13-0 early, coming all the way back to take a 23-22 lead and having the defense and punter again blow it late and lose by a last second field goal.

This week they face a 0-4 Chargers team that is just as antsy for a win as the Giants are. This game I can actually watch on CBS Sunday at 1pm and I expect it to be a fight to the end. Especially for the history between the two teams. Back in 2004, Eli Manning was drafted 1st overall by the Chargers but wasn't happy about it. So with the 4th overall pick the Giants drafted Phillip Rivers and traded him among a handful of 2005 draft picks to the Chargers for Eli. I would say the draft worked out well for the Giants for as much as they gave up. Eli has 2 Super Bowl rings and MVP's, Rivers has 0.

Today's post will remain cardless for today. Zero cards because of zero wins. If they can beat SD on Sunday, expect a much more upbeat post next week.

Oh boy. Words cannot express the way this season has started out for the G-men. The offense continues to stumble and the defense isn't playing it's best either.

Whose fault is it overall? Well, the teams.

The offensive line continues to let Eli get smacked around especially LT Flowers, they are not blocking well enough for any kind of run game, when Eli had time, not very often, he held it too long and the WR's couldn't get open. Then came the big what-would-have-been 30 yard gain drop by Brandon Marshall in the 3rd quarter, the failed kickoff and some bad coverage in special teams. Not to mention a defense that couldn't keep Matthew Stafford from running on them. They also had two key starters out.

How are they going to fix these problems before things implode? Well, that oline is still the biggest key. Fix that, get a run game, throw short quick passes, keep the defense off the field more often and practice special teams. It sounds easy, but it's not going to be. They don't have a whole lot they can do with the oline unless they take a look at free agency.

There was one bright spot last night,

Evan caught his very first NFL touchdown and looked like the best WR on the field last night.

I am hopeful still for this team that they can turn things around against the Eagles. If you all remember correctly, the 2007 Super Bowl winning team started out 0-2 and looked worst than this one. Can this team be another version of that one? Well, it's gotta start with a tough Eagles road win.

There isn't much I can say about last night's dreadful offensive showing in the Giants 19-3 loss to the Cowboys.

All I know that it doesn't all fall on this guy being out.

Some of it is on this guy's shoulders. He missed a few wide open throws last night

But most of the blame as I expected falls on their terrible oline. They couldn't run block and couldn't protect Eli at all letting a second string defense of sorts from Dallas manhandle them.

At least the defense played like they were supposed to. The Giants were lucky more points weren't given up with the defense being on the field sp much with the lack of offensive ball movement.

This is just week 1 and there is time for adjustments to be made. Not sure how they are going to fix the oline but at least Odell will be back for Week 2 against the Lions on MNF.

Getting Ready For Tomorrow

Finally Game Day tomorrow.  Been counting down for months. Every game day I wear a different jersey for and I already have my get up set aside for tomorrow.

Hoping for already Big Blue win, but won't guarantee it. I don't do game predictions it's a curse.

The Cowboys come in full strength on offense and the Giants may be missing my jersey choice for tomorrow. Should be a close interesting game. I just hope the Giants oline can hold up. That's the key piece for the game. If they can't,  Eli will be pressed into bad throwing situations and that never bodes out for a win for the Giants.

 What do you guys think?

0-2, Some Concerns!

Oh boy. Falling 0-2 in preseason isn't a big concern, but watching that low blow last night on Odell Beckham Jr and him not making it to the locker room has to be. He is the key to the offense, actually, he is the offense. Losing him for any long or short period of time and my dreams of a Super Bowl run for this team goes down the drain. Luckily at this point they are just saying it's a minor ankle injury and he is fine. To me, it looked like his knee got nailed. They are running further tests so I am praying for you Odell!

The offense continues to be dreadful to watch. The oline is the biggest concern not protecting Eli as he got his pretty hard last night and not leaving any room for Perkins to run. I can't even tell if Perk is any good because he can't be given a chance to be. It's not the running back's fault, it's the oline!!!!!

As much as I hate to say it, I think the offensive starters need to see even more time in the third preseason to see if this team can actually score a TD. But, don't let Odell play and I don't expect him to til the season premier vs Dallas.

I don't care if they lose all four games, but they gotta get that oline and running game to work and stay healthy most of all.

Can't BEAR It

Since 2010, I have always been a fan of Victor Cruz. He seems like a solid classy guy both on and off the field so I have always routed him on.

Being on my team helps as well. He put up some incredible numbers, including a 99 yard touchdown in a game vs the Jets and I can't count the times I saw him dance the salsa in the end zone including in Super Bowl 46.

But, after two injury plagued seasons and a downed last season despite a healthy one, he was released. It took some time for him to be signed and at points I wanted him to retire in blue so I wouldn't have to view him in another jersey, but, it's too late. He was signed by the Chicago Bears last week and this week pictures of number 80 with a C on his helmet appeared online.

I am happy for him as I will always route him on for what he brought to the Giants, but, I will admit it's tough to see him in anything but this....

So I do wish Victor luck in Chicago and hope he has a good season. However, I hope he finds a new dance. Not sure if I could BEAR seeing him dance the salsa in another uniform.

2017 NY Giants Draft Round 1:Evan Engram

I found a few minutes today to start a new series on the Giants 2017 NFL Draft, not something I have touched base with on here yet.

As some know, I hadn't bought any 2017 football cards up to the draft and without cards, it's kinda tough to do posts. Well, now that I finally have a few with a few more on the way, I thought I would give my thoughts on the selection.

Up first, well, the first round pick. A guy I just picked up cards of in a trade, TE Evan Engram.

There was so much speculation leading up to the Giants pick. They needed so much help on the offensive side. They didn't have a huge cap in the offseason and had to do their best with what they got. Obviously the big fish was landing Brandon Marshall to a deal which the Giants immediately wasted no time in getting. He alongside Odell and Shepard should solidify a pretty solid WR position.

But, it didn't solidify a very weak offensive line.

Many and most were thinking offensive lineman in the 2017 draft, and some with TE especially OJ Howard. I actually thought if one of the top runners fell the Giants would snag 'em but in my mind they were going oline.

I was wrong.

In the end, Howard was snagged by the Bucs and the Giants landed the speedster TE in Evan Engram. It wasn't a name I knew so I had to do some research on him and come to find out, guy is pretty solid.

Engram had with his 4 years at Ole Miss made 162 receptions for 2,320 passing yards and averaged 14.3 yards a play. Not to mention 15 career TD's. He was also one of the fast TE's at the combine. This guy should give the Giants one more weapon they have lacked on offense in a position that has been filled with 1-year guys since the departure of Jeremy Shockey. I hope he brings some of the intensity that Shockey provided. Defenses early on in Jeremy's career had no answers and I hope it's the same way with Engram. Especially playing alongside the best weapons Eli has ever had.

If the offensive line can give Eli time paired with the flash of Perkins, this offense could be unstoppable. But, that's a big IF on the oline, it was pretty atrocious last season.

So time can only tell how he will do but I am looking forward to seeing him on the field and finding his rookies in packs and hopefully an autograph soon.
