Player HITlights:Aaron Ross

When sorting out my NY Giants hits collection by player, I was really surprised by some of the players and the amount of hits I have of them.

That comes from both ends of the spectrum as well.

Today's player, Aaron Ross was one of those surprises for me.

With only a total of one, ONE hit. The only card I hit I have of Ross is this autograph that came in a trade I made just a few years ago.

Ross was drafted by the Giants in the first round of the 2007 NFL. He helped with both of the teams Super Bowl runs against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 42 and Super Bowl 46. He had a career total of 200+ tackles, 2.5 sacks, 33 passes defended, and 10+ interceptions in 65 NFL games in which he started 41 games of.

Ross became a free agent corner in 2012 and signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars. He struggled with his play and injuries became a factor like they did the rest of his career with short stints there after. He actually went back to the Giants in 2013 before having a back injury in Week 4 that knocked him out for the season.

Oooops!

In the trading card world, mistakes can be made.

They are made by collectors like us and they are also made by the manufacturers.

Back in 2012, Panini made one of those mistakes and it took me a few years to catch it.

What appeared to be a Rueben Randle autograph pull from a pack I opened turned out to be a mistake.

That mistake was not noticed by me until a few years later when someone sent me a RAK with another copy of the card in it. This is Randle's signature.

Turns out the autograph I pulled was actually of 2012 Giants first round Draft Pick David Wilson and not that of Rueben Randle.

Here are the cards side by side for comparison.

It's an honest mistake and a fun collection piece for myself. Nothing I am going to have fixed or complain about like some collectors would.

I also own the real David Wilson Momentum autograph rookie auto as well and wonder if there is a Randle autograph on a Wilson card. If I ever find one and if it even exists, I would pick it up for this set. I mean that Randle autograph had to go somewhere right?

Player HITlights: Owamagbe Odighizuwa

Today's featured Player HITlight has a really tough name to spell out without having a card next to you to type it off from.

Owamagbe Odighizuwa, okay I cheated this time and copied and pasted the name from my post title, was a third round pick of the Giants in the 2015 NFL Draft. He was supposed to be that missing pass rushing piece the Giants needed after losing Osi, Tuck and Strahan years prior and was to pair up with JPP.

Well, like a lot of draft picks during that time for the Giants he didn't quite pan out. Injuries took up his rookie season and in 2017 he got caught with PED's by the NFL and shortly after was released by the Giants.

He signed with the Bills in 2018 but didn't last more than a few months of the offseason there.

His NFL career ended with 6 total tackles.

I collected quite a few of his cards and was sent some from other collectors as well,

Contenders Draft rookie auto

Topps Platinum parallel rookie autograph

Topps Platinum rookie autograph

Contenders Cracked Ice rookie autograph

Playbook Rookie Autograph

Prestige rookie autograph

Score Red Zone rookie autograph

Crown Royale Rookie Autograph

Donruss Elite Rookie Autograph

I also have plenty of base and rookies of him as well. Will need to sort them out better to figure out how many I have total of him.

More Player HITlights soon.

Player HITlights:Roger Lewis

Welcome to the new segment here on Big Blue Cardboard where I highlight all of the HITS I have of a current or former NY Giants player and rank my Top 5 favorites. Some players will have an unbelievable amount compared to others who may only have a few.

Today we kick it off with Roger Lewis whom I only have one hit of.

The one hit is his 2016 Contenders Rookie Autograph.

Lewis went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft and signed a free agent deal with the Giants. He moved himself up the Giants depth chart and filled in for a few spots in 2016 and 2017 for injured Giants before being released in 2018. He signed a practice squad deal with Tennessee in 2018 and Indy in 2019 but never made a roster.

One of the most memorable moments I remember about Lewis was his insane catch in overtime on 4th down against the KC Chiefs in 2017 which I will hook you up with here,

I was hoping that the Giants would give him more of a chance, but when the new GM came in the old players went out.

Thanks to Roger though for being in blue for your time.

Eli Reaches 650

I finally did it. I finally reached my latest milestone in my Eli Manning collection by reaching card #650.

Before, I get to that, I want to show off some other fun adds for my Eli collection.

Last week, @clrshonuff messaged me on Twitter and asked if I would be interested in some wrappers from Eli Manning's rookie year for my collection. I figured, why not?

So we pulled off a quick trade and I added the three wrappers to my collection.

The three wrappers were 2004 Skybox LE, Fleer Sweet Sigs and Fleer Tradition. Thanks for the trade Chris!

Now onto Eli Manning card #650

The card is a 2006 Donruss Elite Zoning Commission that is numbered 104/1000. The card, which I had misplaced, came via blogger friend The Diamond King.

After doing some research on the card, there appears to be some parallels and a relic card as well. Guess that will be a future chase.

Not much longer after landing Eli card #650, in came 651 to kick me off on my road to 700.

This 2009 Topps Chrome Eli Manning came in a trade from @ntw16cards.

Thanks Nathan!

I have been very SLLLLLLLLOOOOOWWWWLLLYY adding my Eli Manning cards to the TCDB and have went from 600 in the rankings to 88 to 20 now with my latest adds. I am not sure if I will ever get it all done with the way that website is set up. I really wished I just had a spreadsheet to add these in on and may do some Googling to see if anyone has a player checklist out there I can copy and paste into a spreadsheet.

Regardless if they are listed out there for anyone to see, I am working hard to reach the next milestone and will do a post when I get there.
